Matt started at PetSmart close to 14 years ago as a Supply Chain Operations Improvement Analyst and is now the VP of Global Sourcing. He shares a bit about his #LifeAtPetSmart with us below!
Tell us a bit about your PetSmart journey – where did you start, where are you now, and how did you get there?
Matt: I started with PetSmart July 2007 after business school in Supplier Management. I’ve been lucky enough to have opportunities in Merchandise and MPA, to run a store and am currently leading our PB Global Sourcing and Process team out of Hong Kong. It’s been a great ride and have been lucky enough to have great leaders guide me along the way.
Why do you enjoy your #LifeAtPetSmart?
Matt: I’ve always appreciated working for a company where culture was as important as our financials. That feeling of team and a commitment to a common goal motivates you and gets your best effort even when the business is tough.
Retail is a team sport - we’ve won some championships during the time I’ve been here and have had a few years where we should’ve been relegated. The commitment to winning the next championship is what keeps me coming back.
Why should folks looking to grow their career choose PetSmart?
Matt: Because PetSmart promotes from within. I had no retail experience when I started, and PetSmart has given me opportunities that on paper I shouldn’t have received. PetSmart has always valued talent, leadership and those intangibles more than what someone has accomplished on paper. I’ve always appreciated that.
Any favorite stories or moments from over the years at PetSmart that you’d like to share?
Matt: There are too many to share. What I appreciate the most now is the relationships I’ve created at PetSmart. People who I can reminisce about the old days with and getting to know the new folks who we are building our future with.
