Tell us a bit about your PetSmart journey and career path – where did you start, where are you now, and how did you get there?
Sam: I started at PetSmart right out of college in the Finance department. I spent about 9 years in finance supporting the IT, Customer Experience and Digital departments. I transitioned into HR in 2016 as the HR Data and Analytics Analyst and shortly thereafter picked up Talent Management. In 2019, I moved over to the Human Capital Solution Department and picked up compensation, which I absolutely love! I was just recently promoted to the Director of Human Capital Solutions supporting our Field and DCs.
What did you enjoy most about the TAP Associate program?
Sam: My fellow TAP participants! It was awesome getting the chance to meet and go on this journey with many associates I had not worked with before.
What did you gain from the TAP associate program or how did the TAP Associate program affect your career at PetSmart?
Sam: I learned so much about myself through TAP…some things I’m not sure if I ever would have realized or maybe not as quickly as I did. I gained confidence in my abilities, particularly presentation skills.
Are there any leaders or mentors that have been helpful along the way as your career has progressed you’d like to shout-out?
Sam: Shout out to my mentor, Stephanie Catron and my leader, Chris Lee! Both these leaders were open, honest and just fun! I have learned a ton from both of them!
Why do you love your life at PetSmart or what are some of your favorite parts?
Sam: I love our casual work environment, our culture of recognition, pets (of course), but mostly the people I get to work with every day!
Why should folks looking to grow their career choose PetSmart?
Sam: I have held many roles in 2 different departments in my 13 years at PetSmart. My leaders at PetSmart have been incredibly supportive of my career including investing in me!
Any advice for those interested in pursuing a TAP Associate program experience? What would you tell them?
Sam: The TAP program takes a lot of work and you have to be open and ready for feedback. Totally worth it!
Any favorite stories or moments from over the years at PetSmart that you’d like to share?
Sam: Maybe not 1 in particular, but I have received a few emails about a hamster or bunny on the loose. 😊
