From Pet Care Specialist to Leading Corporate Reputation: Parker’s #LifeAtPetSmart Journey

When Parker joined PetSmart in 2017 as a cashier and pet care specialist, she was looking for something simple: a role that combined her retail experience with her passion for animals. Now about nine years later, that "first job" has grown into something much bigger.

"I was finishing college and working at another retailer at the time, but PetSmart felt like the perfect blend—retail, but with pets. It just made sense.”

Today, Parker is the Supervisor of Corporate Reputation for Customers and Associates, leading the very Social Care team she once joined as a specialist. Her journey—from store associate to a lead in the corporate space—is a clear example of what growth can look like when opportunity, mentorship, and personal drive align.

Growing Through Every Role

Parker’ progressed with experience through multiple store leadership roles, spending much of her time as a Customer Engagement Leader, where she coached teams and shaped the in-store experience. Each step stretched her in new ways, building the leadership skills that would later define her career.

“Every role pushed me to adapt, listen differently, and lead with more intention, I’ve had leaders who invested in me, challenged me, and helped shape who I am today.”

That emphasis on development—both formal and informal—became a turning point. Mentorship, stretch projects, and involvement in Associate Resource Groups expanded her perspective and connected her to opportunities beyond the store.

Leading Where Impact Isn’t Always Visible

Now in corporate reputation, Parker operates in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment where decisions happen in seconds and impact isn’t always obvious. Early on, she wrestled with the behind-the-scenes nature of the work—until a leader reframed it:

“The quiet wins are often the biggest wins. If no one realizes you stepped in, it means you handled it so well it never became a problem. It’s part detective, part translator, part problem-solver—all in real time"

That mindset shift changed how she measures success—not by visibility, but by the trust and stability her team creates every day.

A Leader Focused on People

Ask Parker what she’s most proud of, and it’s not a campaign or a metric—it’s her team.

“Recently, two associates on my team earned promotions. Watching them grow into those opportunities—that’s the best part of leadership.

It’s a reflection of what she values most about PetSmart: Team PetSmart.

The people here are why so many of us stay and build long careers. There’s a genuine passion and care that makes everything else possible.”

Building a Career—On Purpose

Parker is candid about what it takes to grow:

“Advocate for yourself. Keep track of your wins, what you’ve learned, and how you’ve contributed—and share those stories.”

Her own journey is proof of that mindset. By raising her hand for opportunities, leaning into challenges, and building strong relationships, she created momentum that carried her forward. And if she could go back to her first day?

“I’d tell myself: this cashier job is about to change your life—and you have no idea what’s coming.”

Life at PetSmart—In and Outside of Work

Outside of work, Parker’s passion for pets hasn’t slowed down—her home is what she fondly calls a “tiny, chaotic zoo,” complete with dogs, cats, snakes, a tortoise, and a full aquarium. 🐕🐈‍⬛🐍🐢🐠🐟☺️

But just as important as growth is balance.

“Set boundaries. Protect time for what fills your cup. Sustainable growth only happens when you have space to recharge.”

Her career journey in three words? Rewarding. Transformative. Unexpected.
