Meet the 2022 PetSmart Grooming Team

Our Services department formed the PetSmart Grooming Team in 2017 with the goal of increasing PetSmart’s presence at national grooming competitions and in the grooming industry. The team showcases the skill set of PetSmart groomers and displays the high-quality grooms produced by our associates.

The team is comprised of two coaches, three Pet Stylists, three Salon Leaders, one Store Leader, one Quality and Education Leader and four District Academy Trainers from across the U.S. and Canada.

Let’s meet this year’s team 👏

Andrea | PetStylist | Store #766

I have worked for PetSmart for 20 years. I started as a cashier and was cross trained in the salon shortly after. In 2004, I was sent to academy and have been grooming for PetSmart ever since. I currently have three standard poodles: Louie, Piper, and Winnie. I also have a Chihuahua named Poco. In the salon, my favorite breeds to groom are poodles. In the competition ring, I live for creative grooming. The more color the better!! In 2022, I would like place in Abstract Runway and make my way to Open Class in Extreme Creative.

Nadine | PetStylist | Store# 3069

As of January 2022, I have officially been grooming for 21 years. The past 11 years, I’ve had the pleasure of being a part of the PetSmart grooming family. My husband David and I have been married for 10 years and I have a 20-year-old son, Edwin. We have 4 dogs: Ebenzer the Standard Poodle, Oslo the Pug, Petunia the English bulldog and Hondo the Miniature Poodle mix. My favorite breeds are non-sporting, but my passion lies with poodles. My goal is to observe from my peers and take my talents from “good” to “great”, and also start my journey to obtain my master groomer certificate.

Jesse | PetStylist | Store# 420

I started my career in grooming with PetSmart in 1999 when I was 16 years old. I fell in love with the craft of dog and cat grooming and when I turned 18, I had the privilege to attend Paragon School of Pet Grooming. I’ve been grooming 21 years now. I decided to compete in the All American Grooming Show on my own when I saw my Grooming Team Captains, Ashley and Kristie competing. I had no idea we had a team. It’s been the most amazing and educational journey in my career.

Layne | PSL| Store# 414

I began my PetSmart career as a dog trainer in 2007 and found myself as a bather in the salon. I immediately fell in love with grooming and was quickly sent to PetSmart’s grooming academy. I’ve been grooming close to 11 years now. I share my life with my husband, two sons, three standard poodles, and two horses. My favorite dog to groom is the Poodle but the Pembroke Welsh Corgi will forever be my first love. I’m excited to be part of PetSmart groom team and I can’t wait to see where this journey continues to lead me.

Tisha | Canada PSL | Store# 3219

I began my grooming career 31 years ago at the age of 15. It quickly grew into a passion for me and honestly, I could not imagine ever doing anything else. I have been with the PetSmart for six years now and am very excited to represent a company that encourages me to continue to learn, grow, and develop myself as a groomer. I am married and have four dogs which I truly consider my children; two Great Danes, Aries and Cerberus, a Standard Poodle named Bunny and the baby of my bunch is my Beagle, Dutch. My favorite dogs to groom are poodles as I love scissoring but also enjoy grooming terriers and mixed breeds where I can be creative.

Angelica | PSL | Store# 2430

I’ve worked for PetSmart for a little over three years. I was a bather for a year before I went to Academy and graduated in July in 2019. I have three dogs including a Klee Kai, a longhaired chihuahua mix and a toy poodle, as well as cats and some scaly friends. My favorite breeds to groom are Poodles and Giant Schnauzers.

Jonathan | District Academy Trainer | Roanoke/Norfolk VA

I am the District Academy Trainer for the Roanoke & Norfolk markets. I have been with PetSmart for a little over 13 years. My favorite breed to groom is Poodles. I’m beyond excited to expand my grooming knowledge into the competition ring, while being a representative for PetSmart Groomer Nation.

Jessyica | District Academy Trainer | San Diego/S OC HI

I started with PetSmart in 2011 as a core manager before finding my passion in grooming. I have been grooming for about six years now. I am a mother of four kids and I have four fur children as well– My two chihuahuas, Ginger and Chico, my border collie mix Cookie, and my baby boy Mimo who is a toy poodle. I am really looking forward to competing with Mimo in the poodle group and maybe try the bichon group. They are a challenge to do but I love to groom them the most! My goals for this season are to try my hardest to represent this amazing company and of course win some awards!!

Jaime | NCMG | Services Recruiter, MidAtlantic and Southeast

I’ve been with PetSmart for 20 years and grooming for 18 of those. My husband and I have been married for 20 years and we have an amazing daughter who is a sophomore in high school. We have many different pets including, 7 dogs, 4 of which I compete with, 2 horses and a bearded dragon. My favorite class to compete in is the Sporting class, specifically with English Cockers, although I do love to groom Poodles and the Miniature Schnauzer. My goal for the 2022 competition season is to continue to make improvements on my trims and place or be recognized at least once in Open Division.

Kasey | NCMG, Services Recruiter | Pacwest and California

I have been working for PetSmart for 19 years. I have been blessed to learn a craft that I love, and the ability to continue to learn and grow in such an amazing field. I love all of our kiddos… two and four legged! I truly enjoy grooming terriers and poodles. At home we have an English cocker (Doc), a Miniature Schnauzer (James), our Airedale (Phoenix), and our newest addition an Airedale mix (Venture). I am excited to have the opportunity to compete and learn more this year! So thankful for our team and coaches that lead us every year!

Shelia | Store Leader | Store# 1908

I have been with PetSmart for 29 years. 26 of those years were in the salon. I started as a bather. I have been a Groomer, salon leader, Academy trainer and a DAT. I am now the Store Leader in #1908 in Tucson, Arizona. At home I have 3 Horses, 2 Mini horses and a giant sulcate, Shredder! My favorite groom is doing my little dog, Gru, in freestyle. He is so cute and has such a big personality! He even has his own Instagram page @everyonelovesgru. I also enjoy competing with my Mini Poodle Watson in the poodle class. When I am not running the store or grooming, I am competing in my other passion of Ranch sorting and Team Penning. My goal this year is dialing in Gru Kerry Blue trim to get a 1st place with him.

Dana | QE Leader | South Region

It was 23 years ago I made one of the best decisions of my life. I accepted a job as a grooming apprentice at a local mom and pop grooming salon. I was later hired at PetSmart in 2004 as a PetStylist and eventually became a Salon Leader and Academy Trainer. I worked in the PetSmart grooming salon for 8 years before being promoted to Salon Quality and Education Team in 2012. In 2018, I became a National Certified Master Groomer. My husband and I are proud parents of our three daughters, two dogs – Mae, a Miniature Poodle and Molly, a Flat-Coated Retriever mix, and a cockatiel, Frankie. I’m excited to be a part of the 2022 PetSmart Grooming Team where I hope to continue to learn new techniques, move up in division, and to do what I love with a group of very talented PetSmart competitors and coaches.

Now let's meet those talented coaches! 🏆

Kristie | NCMG | Salon Associate Initiatives Manager

I’ve been with PetSmart for 14 years and have been grooming for 26 years. I breed and show AKC Pointers and Chihuahuas with my partner Emily and daughter Mackenzie. I started competing in grooming competitions six years ago because my leader at PetSmart believed in me and pushed me to get in the ring and try. Over the past six years, I have had several placements. My most memorable are 2017 Intergroom Rising Start & 2021 SuperZoo Best in Show. In 2021, I was fortunate to earn enough points to earn a spot on Groom Team USA and end the year as #1 in the Wirecoat class. My goal for 2022 is to earn enough points with my Scottie River to stay on Groom Team USA and earn a spot on the travel team. I’m so excited for the PetSmart Grooming Team to be back competing and to help mentor the new team members for 2022.

Ashley | NCMG | In Store Experience Program Manager

I have been with PetSmart and grooming for 20 years. My co-coach, Kristie, and I started the PetSmart Grooming Team in 2017 to show the grooming industry that we were more than just pet groomers. We also continued to learn and grow our own skills and bring them back to teach our PetSmart groomers. My most memorable win was in a Rescue Clip in at Groom Expo East, where I won the class with an Old English Sheep Dog. My husband is extremely supportive of my work as a competitive groomer and we currently have a Miniature Poodle, Holmes, an English Cocker, Ash, and a Standard Poodle, Lyric. I’m so proud of the team and how we continue to learn, grow, and challenge each other. I hope to one day be a superstar like my co-coach Kristie and join the ranks on Groom Team USA.
