Our PetSmart

At PetSmart, we're committed to building a culture where every associate feels valued, respected, and empowered to contribute their unique perspectives and talents.

Our associates are driving a better PetSmart through their commitments to each other and the communities we serve. Come along as we explore the roles of our seven different Associate Resource Groups, celebrate the impact of Belonging at PetSmart through our different celebrations, and highlight our community activities.

Associate Resource Groups (ARGs)

What are ARGs:

Our Associate Resource Groups (ARGs) bring associates who share a common purpose, interest, or background together.  Each ARG provides opportunities for its members to engage in our communities, drive our culture of belonging and support PetSmart’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. ARGs are voluntary, associate-led groups with support from senior leaders, that help to foster a diverse, inclusive workplace aligned with PetSmart's values, goals and business practices.

At PetSmart, our ARGs have had a meaningful impact on our associates and our company -  creating a sense of belonging among associates. They provide a platform for associates to connect, share experiences, support one another and give back and this enhances our overall workplace culture and #LifeAtPetSmart. ARGs help build a stronger, more inclusive community within PetSmart by promoting understanding, collaboration, and mutual support among associates.  These valuable groups also support professional development for associates – especially those who take on leadership roles within an ARG.

PetSmart's seven different ARGs:

  • Awareness of Visible and Invisible Differences (AVID) strives to promote diversity and inclusion by celebrating and acknowledging the experiences and perspectives of associates with all different types of disabilities, be they temporary or permanent, physical or mental, visible or invisible.

  • MOSAIC is a collective that encourages associates from diverse backgrounds to embrace and celebrate their differences. MOSAIC’s mission is to build cultural awareness, foster open and productive discussions, and remove preconceived notions. 

  • Pride At Work (PAW) is dedicated to creating an environment where LGBTQ+ associates and allies feel supported and celebrated to be who they are at PetSmart and in the communities they serve. Whether you’re a straight ally, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, or identify in any other way, you belong here. 

  • Provide aims to educate and inspire all PetSmart parents and caregivers and help support them in their quest to succeed both personally and professionally. 

  • SERVE honors the service of our PetSmart Veterans and their families by providing Veterans and supporters a space to reach their fullest potential. SERVE aims to create an environment where every Veteran feels like they belong. 

  • StartSmart assists associates and leaders to take charge of their professional development by providing education and networking opportunities that propel associates forward in their current role and prepare for future roles. 

  • Women Inspiring Strength & Excellence (W.I.S.E.) is committed to elevating PetSmart’s diverse workforce of women. We focus on both professional and personal growth by cultivating a culture that supports, develops and empowers women.

Belonging Week

What is Belonging Week?

Belonging Week is an annual event celebrating diversity, promoting inclusion, and fostering a sense of belonging among all associates. It includes activities, workshops, and events designed to engage, educate and inspire PetSmart team members. Activities include keynote speeches from diverse leaders, interactive workshops on inclusive practices, cultural celebrations, mindfulness exercises and team-building activities.

Celebrating Our Associates: Associates share their different perspectives through storytelling, creating a vibrant and enriching experience for all participants. The insight from over seven days of celebration provides valuable insights and practical tools for creating more inclusive teams. This year, Belonging Week takes place from July 29 to August 4 and will have seven key themes celebrating each of our ARGs each of the seven days.  Themes include Communication & Collaboration, Building Community, Trusting Yourself & Support, and Living Authentically.

Looking Forward: We're excited to celebrate our sixth annual Belonging Week, kicking off next month, with both in-person and virtual events to include remote associates, ensuring everyone can participate regardless of location. PetSmart in the Community

At PetSmart, we're dedicated to giving back to the communities we serve. Our associates play a vital role in making a positive impact through various initiatives and volunteer efforts, including pet adoption events, fundraising for animal welfare organizations, community clean-up projects, and educational outreach programs.

PetSmart Charities' efforts helped find homes for nearly 390K pets over the last year and provided over $426K in emergency funding for pets and their people. PetSmart Charities has operated for 30+ years with a network of more than 2,500 shelters and rescues across N America and granted more than $613M in funding to more than 4,000 animal welfare organizations. We're so proud that nearly 11M pets have met their forever homes through PetSmart teams, local animal shelters, dedicated volunteers, and enthusiastic prospective pet owners who have helped to create a true community celebration of pet adoption.
