Michael joined PetSmart nine years ago as a Learning Consultant on the Learning and Development team, bringing a background in adult education and training. Today, he’s the Senior Manager of Store Operations Execution, Compliance, and New Stores, helping ensure stores across the company execute merchandising, pricing, and signage — while also overseeing the opening of new PetSmart locations.
His move from Learning and Development to Store Operations is one of the milestones he’s most proud of. Michael says.
“Transitioning roles allowed me to become a leader of people and get even closer to our frontline store associates, nothing makes me happier than working on projects that help stores operate more efficiently.”
In his current role, Michael works closely with teams across the business—including IT, HR, Merchandising, Marketing, and Legal—to ensure stores have what they need to serve pets and pet parents every day. Along the way, he’s learned just how complex retail operations can be.
“What might seem like a small merchandising or pricing change can actually have a huge impact on the business"
For Michael, the most rewarding part of his work is knowing it directly supports associates in stores.
“If we can make their jobs easier or more efficient, that ultimately benefits pets and pet parents too.”
One piece of advice that’s helped guide his career is the importance of building strong advocates.

“Beyond having a mentor, build relationships with people who will support you and speak highly of you even when you’re not in the room.”
At PetSmart, Michael believes growth starts with curiosity.
“Always be a learner and build your network,” he says. “There are so many opportunities here.”
Outside of work, Michael spends time with Korra, his 10-year-old Samoyed — and his self-described ‘only daughter.’
When reflecting on his time at PetSmart, three words sum up his journey best:
Ever-changing. Passionate. Agile.
